The J. Stephen Ravel award is presented annually to a lawyer practicing before the federal courts in Central Texas who exemplifies the wonderful qualities of our late colleague Steve Ravel.
Steve, who passed away unexpectedly in 2023, was an incredibly accomplished attorney, patent litigator and good friend to many among the Federal Bench and Bar in Central Texas. Steve was a gregarious and charismatic lawyer who displayed unmatched professionalism and integrity. But it was his kind and friendly nature and incessant positive spirit that really set Steve apart.
Call for Nominations
The selection committee is now seeking nominations for the 2026 award scheduled to be presented at the Central Texas Bench and Bar Conference in February 2026. The selection criteria are simple and straightforward. Nominees should practice regularly before the federal courts of Central Texas and should display the qualities that made Steve such a wonderful example for others to follow: integrity, professionalism, creativity, charisma, collegiality and wit.

Please submit your nominations no later than January 30, 2026.
